Going four hours in the car with a dog who really isn’t keen on the whole ‘motorised transport’ thing: not so cool!
Tomorrow, there’ll be less of this, and a good deal more panting, whining and general discomfiture.
This is the one picture I have from this brief trip west that actually includes cars - mine and my mum’s, specifically - so, uh, here it is.

You know I see the map, and I hear the distance and I realize I will be driving for 5+ hours tomorrow and not even be at the bottom of my state and most of that will be at 70 mph without stops. The west is a big place.

Honestly, it’s the dog I’m worried about more than the distance, but the saying, ‘To an American, 100 years is a long time; to a European, 100 miles is a long way’ is undeniably apt, at least in my case.

I seem te recollect from a while ago (years...) that you didn’t have much experience in continental Europe. Seeing how close you live to the tunnel, how often do you cross?
edit: looking at google maps it would supposedly take me 6 hours to drive to the UK. Peanuts. I came to the realization my girlfriend lives considerably further from me than you do, and driving to her in one go while only stopping for LPG gas is something I do just like that, on a whim.

Only rarely, and generally never that far inland. I’ve done a few driving day trips to France, but that’s basically it. On the rare occasion I actually go further inland - like when I went to Germany last year - I’m either with family in our camper van - well, sorta: it’s a VW Transporter with a bed - or I fly. It generally doesn’t work out that much cheaper to drive, with how much petrol costs and my car’s motorway MPG.
All that said, I do reasonably lengthy drives in the UK fairly often, generally ‘cause I’ll need a car where I’m going. The only reason this four hour trip was a particular fuss was the rather car-wary dog I had to take along:
Here she is at the other end of that trip.

Some Dutch Oppo members, myself included, are organizing a meet next Saturday at or near Wassenaar, the Netherlands at about 3 pm local time. It’s probably a bit too far for you (4.5 hours one way according to google maps) but I thought I’d give you a heads up. My 205 GTi will be attending, an Integra and I hope Jobjoris will bring his BMW 2002. Oh, and maybe a Schwimmwagen.

Hey man, sorry I never got back to you about that—I was in the middle of exam season back then, so I had quite a bit on my mind. Wouldn’t have been able to make it, anyway, for the same reason.
Thanks for the offer, anyways—it sounds like it could’ve been great fun. Assuming the idiots who incited the other idiots into destroying my country don’t double-down on the stupidity and actually get us kicked out of the single market/freedom of movement, in addition to the EU proper, I’d love to come along to a meet someday.

No problem whatsoever, to be quite honest I don’t think it would’ve been rewarding to you anyway. While the museum visit was nice, it was a short meet. Compared to the distance you would’ve travelled it was too short.
Have you seen this?

No, completely missed it! I knew the Torchbug would be coming to Europe at some point, but I guess I must’ve missed the post somehow.
Sounds like a lot of fun, anyway! Shame you couldn’t bring the 205 and the 406.
